| February 13, 2001 Between you and me - Fabio was what is called a brat as a kid - he was just like my older son! And my younger son was right behind him! I was tough - just like Fabio's father. He was a wise-ass - just like my older son. Seconded by the younger one. He rides bikes, used to ski - my older son rock-climbs, drives his Tacoma off-road. The younger one likes dirt bikes. They like dangerous prove-yourself sports. They like to be challenged. They are all three alpha-males, dominant. Opinionated. Their way or no way. Try living with two of those! Clairol makes money off me! Fabio's into $$$$ stereo gear (who saw him coming!) - my older son is starting to acquire some of the same stuff - driven by computers - to build a recording studio. My younger one has a camera collection. He wants my 45" set. Wants me to get a digital one. Wants a digital screen for his Mac. a 50" digital screen. They like their toys. Fabio hates his musical CD since he wasn't singing (I love it) - my older son is jamming with a radio station this week (a contract is looming) (He is very, very good.) Fabio made it as a model - my older son has puttered around - been in a few ads, etc. - not too serious about it. We all hope my younger one runs for Mr. Romance - once he's over chemo and has his hair back. Fabio likes big dogs - I doubt that he shovels up after them. I made my sons shovel up after theirs. Now I have a small dog. I'm not sure where it goes. Let's see - Fabio was thrown out of schools - 2-3 a year. Both my kids were thrown out of Montessori schools. I insisted on no more than 1 school change a year..... My older son went to four high schools. Fabio talked back to the priests and nuns - he was, according to himself, a wise-ass. My older son had shouting matches with his teachers. Played stunts. Invaded computer security systems and then told them how to prevent that. They all love to argue. Oh my heavens, can they argue! Fabio said he was always angry as a kid - so was/is my eldest child. None of these three kids were deprived - go figure! My son says it was because the schools didn't teach him anything and he was bored. Fabio wants things his way or no way - hmmmmmmmm. Where have I heard that before? Yesterday? When my youngest complained that I had "touched" his room? As in I cleaned it? Fabio won't let me drink coffee decaf or otherwise in his presense. His father put him to work as a laborer at 14 - he would be the last there and the first out. I had my son working at AMCC. And at Boy Scout camp. Several of them. From the age of 12. Only way to have any peace. Fabio got into bikes and shot put and skiing early - his love affair with motorcross is from the age of 14!!! My older son hiked and camped and rock-climbed and was into sports early - but mostly got into fast driving with a jeep. And now has the Tacoma. I just repaired. Again. The younger on did Mountain Biking and long backpack trips. Fabio scared the hell out of his parents. I can dig that. My younger son did COPE and told me later. I died my hair immediately. Of course Fabio didn't like 16 hour work days - he likes to sleep - a lot - I know that line - I've heard it from both my boys. The younger one still sleeps tll noon. This is because he likes to be up until 3AM. Fabio goes to sleep at midnight. Fabio was on more than four episodes of that Aculpulco Heat show - I have the tapes - he hated the violence - he hated just posing. My older son has limits as to what he poses for, or the props he poses with....My younger son is debating - bowflex for a run on the Mr. Romance ramp -- yes or no. Of course Fabio didn't want to do those 900 ads (I was shocked when I saw one) - he's a Catholic boy! Whooppee cushion for a priest??? Fabio did that? My son had his own set of antics. We were not Catholic. With the latest developments, good thing. I would have defrocked a few. If I had lived near his parents - we would have been comparing notes. One thing about these alpha-male, attention-deficit, high-IQ boys - they land on their feet. Notice how both left home about 18 (finished school just barely, played at college) My younger one got his wings clipped before he joined this ranking - else he would have been out of the house by 18. Leukemia just got in his way. Fabio fell on skis during a championship and broke his leg - the body building followed. He started modeling......and the rest was history. My older son got a computer at two - and programmed it by 8 - and the rest is history. (He writes patented code at CISCO.) Notice that these brats are successful in spite of all this. (Time will tell with my highly creative and bright younger one.) They are the rams among the sheep. And they are all single. I have a lot of sympathy for Fabio's mother. |
